Software Engineer

  • Location: Hessle, East Yorkshire
  • Salary: Negotiable

Role purpose

Make significant code contributions to the VictoriaPlum.com e-commerce application and other internal applications. Work with team leads and project managers to plan upcoming projects. Collaborate with front-end developers and other software engineers to implement new features.

Skills and knowledge

  • Experience using PHP 7 and Laravel 5
  • Experience using Composer
  • Good working knowledge of git
  • Knowledge of GitHub Flow desirable
  • Excellent understanding of OOP principles
  • Up to date knowledge of current web technologies and trends
  • Experience writing modular JavaScript
  • Ability to apply software development best practices
  • Experience using phpspec
  • Experience using Doctrine 2
  • Working knowledge of SQL, specifically PostgreSQL
  • Knowledge of SQL optimisation desirable
  • Experience using Linux / Unix-like systems
  • Experience of interacting with third party APIs
  • An understanding of distributed web application architecture
  • Elixir and Phoenix experience desirable but not required
  • Good communication skills

  • Maintain and amend existing site features
  • Contribute to the planning of new features
  • Clearly communicate risk and steps for mitigation to team leads and project managers
  • Outline testing requirements for assigned tickets
  • Take responsibility for correctness of code
  • Engage in code reviews and provide peers with constructive feedback
  • Work closely with test to identify the source of bugs and propose possible solutions
  • Follow and contribute to in-house development standards and best practices
