5 great bathroom flooring ideas

Posted by Adam Chard in Inspiration | 3 years ago 4 min read

The bathroom flooring you choose needs to be durable, stylish and suited to your daily routine and lifestyle. We've come up with 5 great ideas to get you started...

Flooring is the foundation upon which your bathroom is built and the type of material, colour or design you choose will really help frame your space. With so many options to choose from, you will likely need to narrow down your choices depending on your requirements.

To help you find the perfect option, we’ve picked out 5 great bathroom flooring ideas for you to consider.

1. Gloss or matt floor tiles

Tiles are a great option for the bathroom, not only are they durable and easy-to-clean, which, trust me, is a must if you have small children in your house, but they come in so many styles and colours you are bound to find a design that fits in with your style.

White gloss floor tile

If you select tiles with a high gloss finish, you’ll find that your room will feel much bigger, brighter and a lot more spacious, creating beautiful, clean lines and giving a great spa-like feel to any room. Meanwhile, matt tiles can be used to bring more definition and a natural feel to your décor.

Whatever you do, make sure you buy floor tiles, as these are more hard-wearing than those designed purely for walls and will provide better grip.

2. Wood effect

Wood flooring looks great and is a sturdy option, but the one thing it doesn't cope too well with is getting wet. So, this is where we suggest wood effect flooring. There are a few different options for this, the most popular would be vinyl or tiles.

Our range of wood effect tiles have been printed using high definition techniques. They can be used on both your floors and walls, adding natural warmth to your bathroom design, whilst giving you a natural matt wood effect finish that is strong and easy to maintain.

If you'd prefer something that is easier to install but still gives the same effect, why not try waterproof vinyl flooring? With a range of stunning wood effect designs, you can save money on hiring a tiler, by installing it yourself. Don't believe us? Find out more about Krono Xonic flooring and see how easy it is!

3. Black and white flooring

Here at Victoria Plum, we love a good monochrome bathroom and that passion certainly isn't dampened when it comes to bathroom flooring. Black and white patterned floors are a strong favourite for any bathroom.

What is great about black and white is that you can choose the style that most suits your personality, from a full checkerboard effect, through stripes and random patterns to block colour with a border. You really have endless options to the pattern you create.

4. Bath mat

Carpet is a very popular flooring option in other rooms of the house but isn't exactly in vogue when it comes to the bathroom. It offers a lovely warm footing for you when you get out the bath or shower, but is not easy to keep clean and can start looking tired and patchy pretty quickly.

Of course, when it comes to flooring the choice is yours, but we would recommend buying a fluffy bath mat (like the one pictured below) to place on your floor instead of carpeting the full room. That way you get the best of both worlds: a warm place for your feet after a shower, but with the ease of traditional bathroom flooring.

5. Underfloor heating

If a toasty bathroom is what you are really after, underfloor heating might just be the perfect purchase for you. Not only will it help heat your room, it also won't cost you the earth, as it is acknowledged as being efficient and great value for money.

Warmup underfloor heating

Installing underfloor heating helps you to banish the shock of cold tiles on a chilly winter's morning and can be used in bathrooms of all shapes and sizes, giving you a spa-like interior that will warm your heart, as well as your feet!
