To keep up with the latest interior design trends, it’s time to be bold with your bathroom design, using darker colours to create a more dramatic setting.
In this article, we’ll be showing you just how far you can take your bathroom in terms of smart technology, whilst maintaining a look that is both stylish and contemporary.
To capture the essence of this more futuristic style which uses digital devices, we’ve named this bathroom look “Power-Up”.
What is Power-Up?
Power-Up is all about pushing the boundaries of what your bathroom can do in terms of both smart technology and contemporary style.
Featuring what many would consider to be luxury items, such as a waterproof TV and a smart showering system, it’s a tantalising glimpse of the bathroom of the future. However, with smart technology no longer costing the earth, this type of bathroom is well within your grasp.
Complemented by richer, deeper colours, the interplay of light and dark is an important feature in this bathroom. LED lighting is used in unusual and interesting ways to both highlight and illuminate.
Capturing the essence of the darker interiors trend, which will be a major look for 2019, this futuristic bathroom utilises a combination of grey wall tiles, painted walls and coloured shower wall panels for a truly immersive experience. Lighter shades are used sparingly to provide contrast with floor tiles, furniture and accessories.
How to create your own Power-Up bathroom
Of course, your own bathroom may not be quite as large as the one pictured above, so you can pick and choose which elements to include. Think carefully about who will use your bathroom and their own unique needs. For example, in a family bathroom, a smart showering system could be ideal, allowing everyone to fully customise their experience.
Let's take a closer look at some of the ways you can be bold with your bathroom to include smart technology.
Smart showering
Moving on from conventional mixer and electric showers, digital or smart showering systems are a great way to take your experience to another level entirely.
With the ability to fully customise your shower, right down to the exact temperature and duration, these showers even work with remote controls, so you can set them running from the comfort and warmth of your own bed.
Combine with an LED shower head which will change from blue to purple and red, indicating the exact moment your perfect water temperature has been reached.
Wet room enclosure with LED shower panel
A step-free shower area is much more accessible and will serve you well in later years when mobility may be an issue. To add light in an unexpected place, choose an LED shower panel. The light comes with a rechargeable battery pack (so no need to hire an electrician) and a motion sensor, switching on when you go within 4 metres of it.
Combine tiles and wall panels for colour
Wall panels are the way forward but if you want to mix it up a bit, you can use alongside tiles. Wall panels come in many colours and shades and styles, from bright primary colours to deeper, darker shades, like the ones we’ve used here. Ideal for shower enclosures, offering watertight protection, they're great when used right around your room too.
LED mirrors for added illumination
If you're looking for additional task lighting, say goodbye to the dark days of old-fashioned, dim bulbs, and say hello to bright, powerful LEDs. Not only are LEDs more energy-efficient, costing less to run than ordinary lights, they also come with some neat features like demisters and infra-red on/off switches, so you can operate even with wet or soapy hands.
Touch taps
A simple touch is all that's required to turn your basin taps on. With the Mode Touch tap range, a precise and reliable thermostatic flow is delivered by a digital valve, with subtle LEDs that indicate water temperature. The perfect finishing "touch" for your Power-Up bathroom.
