Meet Romanee: Victoria Plum work experience placement student
Year 12 secondary school pupil Romanee joined our marketing team for a 2-week work experience placement. Working closely with our Interior Designer and Content Curator Ruth, Romanee helped research, brief and create an inspirational bathroom room set, which we used as part of our marketing content output.
Romanee takes up the story:
“My work experience placement began with a trip to the Victoria Plum head office in Doncaster, where I was warmly welcomed by the team. I was then kindly provided with a laptop, as I would be working remotely. The one exception was when I travelled to Manchester to meet with Ruth, someone I would be working with closely. She explained what I’d achieve by the end of my experience and gave me some great insight by demonstrating her previous work.”
“My task was to create a bathroom design which would appeal to a specific customer profile. I would then brief this to a CGI team who would bring my ideas to life. Whilst working remotely, Ruth still offered amazing support, helping with any queries I had and keeping on top of my tasks, so there was never a dull moment.”
“When creating the design brief, I gained excellent experience in choosing furniture, colour schemes and floor plans, whilst meeting tight deadlines. Once my initial brief was completed, I was able to adapt my ideas to fit smaller spaces, like ensuites and cloakrooms.”
“I was extremely happy with how my designs turned out and enjoyed working professionally as part of a design team. I’m very grateful for this opportunity which made me realise that my passion for creativity and design is something I’d like to pursue as a career.”

Ruth says:
“During the process, Romanee learnt how to write a design brief and how to curate an informed design concept. This involved researching interiors trends and producing mood boards based on colour, textures, materials and product selection. She then worked with the CGI (Computer-generated imagery) team to develop her design as a 3D render. In the near future, we’ll be building the design in our studio, and Romanee will be invited back to help with an on-set photoshoot.”
“This was a valuable experience for both me and the business. I was able to develop team-working and communication skills in a managerial-style role, and it was wonderful to be able to provide Romanee with the opportunity to develop her portfolio. I look forward to working with other interns in the future in this capacity.”
