Which bathroom trends will be big in 2021?

Posted by Nicky Kingston in Inspiration | 3 years ago 3 min read

If you have your heart set on a stylish, contemporary bathroom this year, which trends should you look out for? We asked our friends at Ideal Standard, the UK’s No 1 bathroom brand, to pick out their top 3.

Although none of us will be sad waving 2020 goodbye, this particular year did allow many of us to reconnect with our homes. According to Money.co.uk,UK homeowners have spent a staggering £55 billion on home improvements since March, resulting in quite a few dodgy DIY paint jobs! As we eagerly look towards 2021, there are some interesting new trends to look forward to, from modern twists on traditional cottage styles, to daring new colour palettes. 2021 looks like an exciting year for interior design, particularly within the bathroom.

Here are some of our favourite styles to look out for next year, and some simple tips on how you can make sure your bathroom stays on-trend.

The “Modern Country” look

Nicknamed “Cottagecore”, this trend draws inspiration from the traditional and picturesque English cottage. Cottagecore is arguably one of the most quintessentially British designs, and its predicted rise in popularity is mostly thanks to the uptake in period property renovations. In order to achieve full Cottagecore style, it’s vital to draw from trusted traditional looks of the past and bring them up to date with a modern twist. Trademark looks of this trend include treated wooden panelling, cosy furnishings and antique pieces—a great way to sustainably update your interiors.

You can easily bring the Cottagecore style to your bathroom, by installing key pieces from our Concept Air collection. These slick, minimalistic designs allow eccentric, Cottagecore-style accessories to shine, whilst giving a clean and timeless sense of design to a room. To really finish the look, consider pairing the basin with modern gold taps with one of our elegant and slick mirrors (some come with handy anti-steam technology!) and traditional black and white tiling.

Bring on the bold

After a very drab 2020, it’s time to bid farewell to neutral colour palettes, and say hello to the bold and impactful. Dark blues and greens are at the forefront of the 2021 colour palette, but never fear, this doesn’t mean that you have to whip out the paint brush and give yourself a dark blue feature wall. These colours can be incorporated in other ways, from subtle additions of new accessories, to boldly coloured bathroom furniture.

Intriguing tile patterns and designs

One of the key trends of 2021, set to make its way into everyone’s bathrooms next year, is the use of intriguing tile designs and patterns. Whether you’re choosing mermaid tiles, so-called due to their curved edges which mimic the scales on a mermaid’s tail, or using metro tiles in a herringbone pattern, it’s the perfect way to bring some character into your bathroom. Although pastel colours are expected to be popular, you really can customise this look and adapt it to any colour scheme that works in your bathroom.

To complement curved edges and unusual tile layouts, the Concept Air collection again works wonderfully with these feature pieces. The clean lines and sleek finishes of these round-edge basins and toilets really amplify the tile patterns.

With plenty of exciting trends to come in the new year, it’s safe to say that now’s the perfect time to start considering the latest designs for your bathroom.
