Expert advice: Mira’s digital showers buying guide

Posted by Adam Chard in Buying guides | 5 years ago 7 min read

Whether you're buying from scratch or looking to upgrade, there is a wide variety of digital showers to choose from.

To help you decide which digital shower is right for you, we spoke with the experts at the UK's No. 1 showering manufacturer, Mira Showers, to provide some answers to your most common questions.

What is a digital shower?

Put simply, a digital shower works in the same way as a mixer shower. It takes the water from your hot and cold supplies and blends these together to achieve your desired temperature. The difference between a digital shower and mixer shower is that the digital technology (within a digital shower) enables the ultimate precise temperature control – to within a degree.

Digital showers, depending on the product, also have precise flow control as well as other innovative features that aren’t available on mixer showers. From an installation perspective, the digital valve is installed away from the showering area, (typically under the bath or in the loft) meaning there is no mixer valve mounted on your bathroom tiles or in the wall, giving a clean and minimalist look in your bathroom.

What are the different options in the Mira digital shower range? How do I choose?

There are 3 easy steps to choosing your Mira digital shower:

Step 1: Choose whether you are looking for a wired or wireless digital shower

Wired digital showers provide the same digital temperature control and features, including warm-up mode. A wireless digital shower provides added flow control, as well as flexible installation through the wireless connection between the controller and valve.

Step 2: Choose whether you want a high pressure or pumped option

Like conventional mixer showers, digital showers require both a hot and cold water feed, depending on your water system you may want either a high pressure or pumped digital shower. A high pressure option is suited to mains pressure unvented systems and combination boilers, whereas a pumped option is suited to low pressure gravity systems. Check out our blog post "Do I need a shower pump?" to identify your water system, or ask a plumber if you're still unsure.

Step 3: Decide whether you would prefer a single outlet or dual outlet digital shower

All Mira single outlet digital showers have a handshower with 4 unique spray experiences. The Mira Platinum single outlet features the Mira 360 showerhead which has Mira Flipstream™ technology, providing you with 4 different spray experiences to suit your mood. On the other hand, the Mira Mode single outlet features the award-winning Switch handshower, which also features 4 unique spray modes; the Soothe spray mode is dermatologically accredited for sensitive skin by the Skin Health Alliance—perfect for all members of the family.

Mira have just launched their new Mira Mode digital shower. Better still, this innovative product comes with a free app for your smartphone which allows you to switch your shower on or off, and set your maximum temperature and shower duration. There are also great design features: the slick LED indicator lights on the controller flash whilst the shower is warming up, and then remain on once the water has reached the desired temperature. There is an additional remote control that enables you to switch the shower on or off from outside the showering area which is included as standard.

What features do wireless Mira digital showers have?

Mira wireless digital showers have innovative technology and features, all designed to make life that little bit easier. The Mira Platinum shower comes with a range of clever functions including a warm-up mode; this means that when you switch on your shower, it will reach your desired temperature and then pause until you are ready to get in. There’s also the helpful digital display which means that you can keep track of your time spent in the shower. Plus, try eco mode if you’re keeping an eye on your water and energy bills.
