How to easily add bathrooms to your property with Saniflo

Posted by Adam Chard in How to guides | 6 years ago 5 min read

Adding a new bathroom, cloakroom or ensuite where there wasn’t one previously is easier than you think, thanks to the range of products available from Saniflo.

Whether you’re looking to add a toilet beneath the stairs in your busy household, creating an ensuite in your loft conversion or simply adding a power shower to an existing room, with this guide, we’ll show you exactly what you’ll need in each situation with Saniflo’s handy product selector table.

A quick introduction to Saniflo

As the UK’s leading experts in sanitary treatment products, chances are you’ve already used a Saniflo product without even realising it. Saniflo produce a wide range of products, including waste pumps and macerators, which can be used right around the home.

Most plumbing in the UK relies on gravity to siphon away waste into a soil stack, which leads directly to the local sewage system. In purpose-built properties, the soil stack is usually handily located next to the main bathroom and kitchen. In modern properties, any additional bathrooms, ensuites or cloakrooms will also have plumbing which easily feeds into the soil stack.

Sometimes, however, gravity may need a helping hand, especially where you are looking to add a completely new set of toilet or bathroom facilities elsewhere on your property, a long way from the soil stack. Completely overhauling your plumbing system to incorporate a new room may add thousands of pounds to your project. However, with Saniflo, you can keep to a tight budget, whilst providing a perfectly practical solution.

Where can I use Saniflo products?

Whether you’re having problems shifting waste water from your kitchen sink or want to turn your garage into a bathroom, take a look at the diagram below to see where you can use Saniflo products in your home:

Next, we’ll take you through some of the most common bathroom projects that homeowners undertake and show you which Saniflo products to choose for each scenario.

A slow draining shower or bath

Sometimes gravity simply isn’t on your side, especially if your bathroom is situated in a loft conversion or in a basement. Water pooling in your shower enclosure can lead to a poor experience and unhygienic conditions. If your bath or shower takes a long time to drain, help is at hand with the Saniflo Sanivite+ kitchen and utility pump.

Suitable for grey water only (especially hot, soapy water), this powerful yet quiet pump can be neatly tucked away in a vanity unit or beside your shower enclosure and comes with 4 inlets, so you could also connect and drain your basin, plus a further 2 installations such as an additional bath or shower. It can also be used in your kitchen (as pictured above) to drain a kitchen sink, washing machine and even a dishwasher.

Designed with a high pressure chamber which detects water movement and switches on automatically, your slow draining bath or shower will soon be a thing of a past.

Fitting a new downstairs cloakroom

Does your home contain just a single bathroom? Does this cause issues when you’re racing around in the morning, trying to get ready? Why not ease the problem by turning an unused downstairs space into a cloakroom?

With the Saniflo Sanitop UP macerator pump, it can be quick and easy to achieve. Featuring 2 inlets for your toilet and basin, it reduces waste to liquid form before discharging via a small bore pipe. Plus, with a quiet motor, it certainly won’t disturb your peaceful and harmonious household.

Adding a bathroom or ensuite to a loft conversion

Whilst adding much-needed space to your home, loft conversions cost a pretty penny. If you’re looking to incorporate a bathroom or ensuite into your design, installing all that extra plumbing can be prohibitively expensive.

The Saniflo SaniPro Up macerator pump comes with 4 inlets, so you can connect your toilet, basin and 2 other installations, such as a power shower or even a bidet. With a neat and unobtrusive compact design, the SaniPro Up will slot perfectly into your new bathroom or ensuite.

For an even more discreet installation, the Saniflo Sanislim macerator pump (pictured below) is designed to fit behind even the most slimline of close coupled toilets, with a depth of just 145mm. Featuring the same 4 inlets to deal with all your bathroom waste, it’s a great choice for designer décor.

Adding a power shower to a bathroom or ensuite

If you’re upgrading from a regular mixer shower to a power shower, your regular shower tray waste might not be quite up to job when it comes to draining all that excess water away.

To prevent water from pooling within your shower tray, or worse, flooding your bathroom, the Saniflo Saniplus UP macerator pump is ideal and can be swapped quickly and easily for an existing Saniflo product.

The large tank coupled with a 400W motor means it can deal with high output powers showers, as well as waste from your toilet, basin and even a bidet.

Plus, as with all the Saniflo products we stock, it comes with a reassuring 5 year manufacturer’s warranty.
