Searching for that perfect mirror for your bathroom? In this blog post, we offer some tips and advice to help pick one that’ll reflect well on you. It’s another Little Bathroom Victory…

Choosing a new mirror for your bathroom isn’t really the easy task that many people imagine it is. In fact, it can be surprisingly difficult. It is also something that many people overlook when redoing their bathroom, and then purchase as a last-minute afterthought, rather than giving it the same consideration as the rest of the items in their bathroom.

Whether you use your bathroom mirror for dealing with unruly eyebrows, giving your beard a trim, doing your makeup or sorting out your hair, it is a necessary bathroom accessory and one you’ll struggle without.

But that isn’t all that the humble bathroom mirror is useful for. There are also a number of other reasons that you might choose to have a mirror in your bathroom. And once you’ve decided that you need a mirror, there are so many to choose from! Indeed, the decision-making process has only just begun.

Mirrors—the interior designer’s clever trick

While it’s true that the main function of a mirror is checking your reflection, the humble mirror is also the interior designer’s best friend. Modern homes are getting smaller, and the large luxury bathroom is not something that many houses have. However, with the right design tricks, you can make a small space look much bigger and brighter.

A carefully selected mirror placed strategically close to your bathroom’s source of natural light can have a huge impact. Not only will it have the effect of making your bathroom look bigger, but it will also assist by reflecting the natural light from your window around the room. This will also help to make it feel lighter and roomier.

While the placement of your mirror is important in order to achieve this sense of space and light, it is also important to remember that lighter colours in your bathroom will help to make it look bigger. So, for maximum effect, you should consider not only be putting a mirror in your bathroom but also selecting paler colours for your overall colour scheme.

If you have a smaller bathroom then it really is very important to consider your choice of mirror carefully if you want to achieve this effect.

Which mirror should I choose?

Mirrors come in all sorts of different shapes, sizes and styles, and selecting the right one for your bathroom is important for several reasons. Many people prefer to choose a simple, classical look for their bathroom, with a clean white bathroom suite and simple tiles. The accessories that they add are very important as this is what allows them to add a little bit of their own personality to a bathroom and make it a little less clinical and more homely. Bright pops of colour can be added with the addition of towels and other bathroom accessories. A mirror is also a great way to add a special, more personal touch to a bathroom.

When considering your choice of mirror for a bathroom there are three things that you will want to think about; size, colour and style. Simple glass mirrors with no frame can be a very popular choice with many people, but if you are looking to add something a little more interesting then you may want to look at mirrors with frames which can add an extra design element to your bathroom.

Whether you prefer a frameless, minimalistic mirror for your bathroom or something with an ornate frame that will add a little touch of opulence to your bathroom, you need to ensure that it is neither too small, nor too large.

While square and rectangular mirrors are the most popular choices, you could choose something with a little more character, like this Art Deco style Beaumont mirror

If your bathroom has a countertop with a sink, or two sinks then the obvious position for your mirror will be over the sink area. Measure the space carefully before you go mirror shopping. You should be looking for something that will fit the space well but with a few inches of space all the way round. If the countertop is particularly long, then you may want to consider a mirror that will fit nicely above the sink and leaves wall space free for lighting or maybe some small shelves. Or, you could consider two matching mirrors if you prefer.

Square and rectangular mirrors are the most popular choice of bathroom mirror. However, for those people looking for something a little different, circles and arches can be used to very clever effect.

The smart mirror

The humble bathroom mirror has had something of a makeover in recent years. Thanks to some clever advances in technology, the smart mirror, sometimes referred to as the magic mirror, is a very exciting new choice for your bathroom and for your smart home.

Not only can this mirror tell you the time and date, but it can also give you the lowdown on the weather while you are getting ready to face the day ahead. In our fast-paced society, where time is such a precious commodity, tech can play a vital role in assisting people to use their time more efficiently. The smart mirror can be invaluable in assisting with this, providing you with the information that you need, including the latest weather and social media updates, all in the comfort of your bathroom while you are getting ready.

You might be wondering how a smart mirror works. A smart mirror is simply a transparent mirror that is placed over a tablet or a tv monitor. This offers you the convenience of a variety of smart features with the practicality of a mirror all in the same place.

If you love your gadgets and are looking for a thoroughly modern-looking mirror for your bathroom then there really is no better choice than a smart mirror. There are a number of different makes available on the market at the moment, so it is a good idea to look at the features that they offer. Don’t forget to consider the space where you want to put your mirror, you don’t want to buy something that doesn’t fit.

Whatever your choice of mirror, it’s simply too important to leave as an afterthought. Consider your mirror an integral part of your bathroom design, measure up well and consider carefully, and you won’t go far wrong.
