Seamless sophistication: Get the warm minimalist look

Posted by Adam Chard in Style guides | 7 years ago 5 min read

Turn the clock back 20 or even 10 years ago and your typical bathroom was a very separate and functional space, however with the latest trends in interior design, there is now a more seamless and sophisticated transition between the rooms in the home.

The rise in contemporary bathrooms has seen a backlash against ornate and overly decorated interiors. With the stresses and strains of our fast-paced lives, we now find ourselves taking an interest in more mindful living — the careful consideration of our home environment — leading to a more pared back and uncluttered look and feel. This trend has become known as minimalism.

Whilst the minimalist approach is certainly proving popular, it can, at times, feel a little cold and sterile, which certainly isn't the look you're trying to achieve in a family home. And so we come to the latest trend in interior design: the warm minimalist look.

What is the warm minimalist look?

Warm minimalism is all about softening shapes, injecting a touch more colour into your palette and introducing warmer materials, producing a look and feel that is clean and uncluttered yet lived in and inviting. Stark, angular objects with straight lines and sharp corners can be replaced with more rounded, softer elements. Whites and greys, which have been the mainstay of contemporary bathrooms for a while now, can be complemented by naturals, pales and tints. Textures such as wood and natural fibres such as bamboo can be introduced through carefully chosen wall and floor coverings, furniture or accessories.

But how do you go about achieving a warm minimalist bathroom? We've taken a look at several different ways you can get the look:

Warm wood

Whilst your bathroom may not be quite as large as this one, you can still add a touch of warmth through carefully selected wood furniture, such as this vanity unit and wall hung cabinet from the Sherwood chestnut range. This not only contrasts beautifully against the white tiling and suite, but also provides a discreet and stylish way to tidy away clutter.

Freestanding bath

If relaxation is the name of the game in your bathroom, you certainly cannot overlook the necessity for a freestanding bath like the Arte pictured above. The shape of the bath is soft and rounded with clean lines. Here, we have kept things uncluttered to keep the mind focused, but added some simple wooden shelving and a stool for storage.

Feature tiles

In this bathroom, a feature wall and matching splashback have been created using patchwork tiles. This has helped to break up the whites and greys which dominate, and even though the tiles still sit within the monochrome palette, they certainly help create a more inviting environment. A wall hung basin and toilet from the Verso range help keep the floor space clear.

Greenery

Whilst the wood inserts of the Tate Bathroom furniture promote a sense of warmth amongst the on-trend white metro tiles, house plants have been used here and there to create a greenery theme throughout the room. This helps to soften the look and is also great for improving air quality.

Feature tap

If you feel your bathroom design is looking too sterile, you can easily inject a touch of personality with a feature tap, like the Harrison basin mixer tap above. With its curved shape and flat edged design, it'll certainly bring a different dimension to your bathroom routine.
