Looking for ways to decorate a plain white bathroom? We’ve come up with some great ideas to help you add a touch of colour and character.
Judging by recent trends, a pristine white suite is one of the most sought after looks when redesigning a bathroom. Yet, many of us lack inspiration when it comes to adding accent colours to offset all that white space. So, what can you do if your ideal white bathroom has now become a little boring?
There are many alternatives ways to dress up a white bathroom that don’t simply involve adding contrasting colours. By changing your lighting, and adding textures and tones, you can easily transform your bathroom into a stylish space that reflects your own unique tastes.
Whilst it’s not all about colour, there is a need for some sort of contrast in a white bathroom to add character to your space. Your choice of colours is limited only by your imagination if you have a white bathroom suite, so however bright and colourful you’d like your interiors to be, there are so many possibilities.
Careful use of colours will help to create the atmosphere you’re looking for. A good plan is to decide on the vibe you want from your bathroom. For example, if you desire a relaxed and calming atmosphere then paler colours might be an option, or to be invigorated and energised, a brighter colour palette may be more appropriate.
And it’s not just your wall space, where colour can be added. Sometimes, changing up the colour of your flooring can really help it stand out as a feature.
For something slightly more subtle, why not simply change your accessories, such as the bath towels, mats or storage that you use. Easy changes from silver to gold fittings can give your interiors a completely different look, transforming the overall appearance of a white bathroom easily.
By making smaller changes, you are free to alter the appearance of your bathroom whenever the mood takes you. You could even modify the look between seasons—imagine stepping into a winter wonderland bathroom around Christmas time!
The addition of texture is something we consider in other areas of our homes without thought. For example, we soften the look of our living rooms with a throw or blanket and add cushions to bedrooms. However, it’s something we often fail to think about when planning a bathroom. The addition of textured towels or textured walls (like shower wall panelling) and floors can bring a whole new feel to your space.
To really bring your bathroom to life, why not head down to your local garden centre and pick up some humidity loving plants?

Different lighting effects can immediately transform the look of your bathroom, both during the day and the evening.
Lighting in bathrooms is often functional, and far brighter than necessary. This may be all well and good when waking up in the morning but certainly isn’t ideal for a relaxing evening bath.
Adding smaller light sources can change the mood of the bathroom in an instant. An illuminated LED mirror or wall mounted light allow for a softer ambience when you are trying to unwind.

Planning a change?
If you’re looking to make several changes, it’s always a good idea to create a plan. By using a mood board, you can visualise all the changes you’d like to make, before starting work or spending any of your hard-earned cash. This way, you can avoid clashing colours (unless that’s the look you’re going for) or textures that don’t really fit.
One of the great things about a plain white bathroom is the blank canvas it gives you to play with and the flexibility this presents. If your present décor is feeling a little dated, the simple changes mentioned above will help refresh and revive, leaving you with a much more stylish space.
