Groundhog Day. Why do we suffer the same bathroom issues over and over again?

Posted by Adam Chard in DIY advice | 1 year ago 3 min read

After surveying our customers, we discovered that, for many of you, it’s like Groundhog Day in your bathroom, as you keep waking up to the same issues.

In this article, we’ll take a look at the results of this survey, discovering what the most common bathroom complaints are and what you can do to rectify them.

In the classic 90s film "Groundhog Day", based around the annual celebration of the same name that takes place on 2nd February in the USA, Bill Murray plays a TV Weatherman who is doomed to repeat the same day over and over again, no matter what he does. Whereas the film is entirely fictional, it does seem that, in reality, many people are waking up to the same bathroom issues every single morning.

Common bathroom issues

Out of all the most common bathroom issues, half of those questioned cited a lack of storage as a problem in their bathroom, whilst 43% said they had a loose or broken toilet seat that hadn't been fixed.

Other issues that particularly irritated bathroom users include mouldy grouting, a leaky shower enclosure or screen and a faulty flush.

Don't suffer with mouldy grouting

Has your nice white grouting lost its lustre?

Whilst all these issues may seem trivial, you might be wondering why they simply don't get fixed. So we asked that very question.

Why don't we fix our bathroom issues?

29% of those who completed our survey pointed to the effort involved as the reason why they hadn't sorted their issues, whilst 28% said that a lack of time was the main reason why the simply hadn't got round to this.

9% felt they couldn't find a suitable replacement product and 8% simply felt the cost was too great.

So it would appear that, with the busy lives we lead, we simply can't find the time or summon the effort to fix all the little problems in our homes.

Mouldy grouting

Discolouration between your tiles needn't bother you any longer. Simply get an old toothbrush, don a pair of rubber gloves and fill a container with a mix of bleach and bicarb of soda. White wine vinegar can also be used to get those walls and floors gleaming again.
