Which trends capture your imagination?

1. Artistic tiling

In 2024, we’re sure to see the artistic tiling trend taking centre stage, elevating functional spaces into visually stunning works of art. This trend embraces the idea that tiles aren’t merely functional elements but canvases for creativity, transforming bathrooms into personalised sanctuaries.

Artistic tiling is characterised by a departure from traditional, uniform tile patterns. Instead, it encourages a more expressive and eclectic approach, incorporating a variety of shapes, colours and textures. Intricate mosaics, bold geometric patterns and charismatic murals are just some of the defining elements of this trend, allowing individuals to infuse their bathrooms with a unique and artistic flair.

Artistic tiling can take the form of a patterned feature floor

Artistic tiling isn't confined to a specific colour palette or material, making it an incredibly versatile trend. From earthy tones and natural textures to vibrant hues and glossy finishes, the possibilities are endless.

You can apply artistic tiling to your bathroom in various ways. Feature walls adorned with captivating mosaic designs, floors that tell a visual story, or even an artistic backsplash behind your basin. This trend invites you to step outside the conventional boundaries of bathroom design and explore the limitless potential of tiles as a medium for artistic expression.

2. Biophilia

In a world where we often feel disconnected from nature, the Biophilia trend for bathrooms seeks to bring the healing and rejuvenating power of plants and organic elements into our personal sanctuaries.

Derived from the Greek words “bios”, meaning life, and “philos”, meaning love or affinity, Biophilia is more than just style; it’s a holistic approach that considers the wellbeing of both humans and the environment. In bathrooms, this translates to a harmonious blend of natural materials, such as wood, stone and plants, creating a luscious, serene and tranquil atmosphere, reminiscent of a spa retreat.

Bring your bathroom to life with the Biophilia bathroom trend

One of the key features of the Biophilia trend is the incorporation of greenery into your bathroom space. Lush indoor plants, vertical gardens or even botanical-themed wallpaper can introduce a refreshing organic touch. These elements not only enhance the visual appeal but also contribute to improved air quality and overall wellbeing.

The colour palette associated with Biophilia tends to mirror the hues found in nature—earthy tones, soft greens, calming blues and warm neutrals. These colours all conjure up a sense of tranquillity and relaxation, enhancing the overall spa-like experience of the bathroom.

3. Contemporary meets country

If you’re a countryside dweller but simply love the look of clean, contemporary products, you can enjoy the best of both worlds with this latest bathroom trend.

In 2024, I expect to see more home interiors that blend modern or contemporary design elements with rustic or country-inspired styles. In bathrooms, this could mean combining sleek, minimalist fixtures with warm, natural materials like rustic wood or stone. For example, in our bathroom below, the farmhouse style interior, complete with wood beams, and the weathered-wood vanity units blend seamlessly with the simple freestanding bath, gold taps and sofa.

Create a relaxing rural retreat of your very own with one of the big bathroom trends of 2024

With changing work habits, brought about by the COVID pandemic, many homeowners are now turning their back on the urban sprawl of the city for a quiet life in the country. Even TV celebs like Sarah Beeny have begun embracing the rural life, which is why we feel bathroom trends like this will experience a boom in the coming years, as budding interior designers look to leave their mark on country homes.

4. Glasswork

One of the beauties of the bathroom is the unique way in which windows play a vital role in the overall look and feel of the space. With an emphasis on privacy rather than the outward view (in most cases, at least!), it allows for a little more creativity on the part of the homeowner. As such, we’re starting to see a little more variety in the design of bathroom windows. Intricate, frosted and stained glass designs, that wouldn’t feel out of place in an Edwardian home, are making a comeback in all manner of properties throughout the UK.

Coloured patterns, for example, will help to cast your bathroom in a different light entirely, providing an intriguing and wholly unique backdrop to your daily routine.

Making the most of natural light is just one of the tricks of the interior design trade, helping to make a bathroom feel lighter, brighter and more spacious, without actually increasing its dimensions. So, it certainly pays to consider how your choice of window will affect the overall look of your space.

5. Innovative lighting

In terms of both style and functionality, bathroom lighting has come on leaps and bounds in recent years. From gorgeous pendant lighting to LED mirrors, you now have a whole variety of ambient lighting fixtures at your fingertips.

Bathrooms have finally seen the light. Create the perfect ambience in your bathroom with innovative lighting

With energy bills soaring in recent years, homeowners have discovered just how much they can save with LED lighting. This in turn has led to greater innovation in bathroom illumination, allowing you to set the perfect mood for your evening bath and provide focus for those everyday tasks.

6. Luxurious relaxation with new technology

While smart technology has touched almost every aspect our lives, the humble bathroom has remained relatively tech-free. That is, until now…

Imagine stepping into your bathroom and being greeted by a smart mirror—more than just a reflective surface, it's your personal assistant, offering tailored lighting and virtual guidance at your fingertips. With integrated displays and interactive features, it's the epitome of modern elegance.

While this may still seem more sci-fi than high tech, in 2024 you’ll discover many more ways to enjoy luxurious relaxation through smart bathroom fixtures.

Smart showers are leading the way in redefining your bathroom experience, with personalised showering programmes that not only suit your lifestyle, but help to save water too.

And, when it comes to comfort and hygiene, smart toilets reign supreme. Equipped with automated lids, personalised bidet functions and self-cleaning mechanisms, they redefine the meaning of indulgence in the bathroom space.

7. Mixed materials

In this bathroom trend for 2024, different textures come together to create a dynamic and captivating environment.

Think sleek glass, natural wood accents and polished metals—the perfect blend of sophistication and organic charm. But that’s not all! By incorporating a mix of matt and glossy surfaces, you can add depth and visual intrigue, while the integration of stone and ceramics introduces a luxurious tactile quality that elevates the senses.

The real magic happens when contrasting materials come together. In the image above, you can really appreciate the interplay of marble, wood, ceramic and brass, effortlessly merging to create a contemporary oasis.

8. Organic materials and textures

One of the big bathroom trends this year—and it's one I'm very excited about—is the focus on organic materials and textures. Along with Biophilia, this has emerged as a backlash against the modern world and all its trappings, with homeowners seeking a return to nature.

And, when it comes to decorating your interiors, stone textured walls, stone flooring and accessories, in all manner of natural forms, are set to rock your world!

One quick tip from me: When choosing your fixtures, look for items that echo organic forms and complement the natural materials and textures you use.

9. Pleats, curves, shells and frilly shapes

Adding a modern twist (quite literally) to conventional fixtures, this year, we’re set to see pleats, curves, shells and frilly shapes make an impact in British bathrooms.

Providing a more tactile and visually interesting alternative to plain designs, these shapes will find form in even the most mundane of bathroom accessories.

What’s hot this year? Pleats, curves, shells and frilly shapes can be achieved through creative heating choices

One creative way you can do this is to add a designer vertical radiator or heated towel rail to your bathroom décor. You’ll find a wide range of shapes and colours available which complement this trend to perfection.

10. Quiet Luxury

In 2024, loud, in-your-face styles are out. Enter Quiet Luxury from stage left…

Quiet Luxury revolves around the notion of understated elegance. It’s all about investing in high quality fixtures and allowing them to do the talking. Often known as the “old money aesthetic”, it’s a minimalist yet timeless trend which can easily be achieved in a bathroom.

11. Sustainable spa bathroom fixtures

Sustainability is a word that’s never far from our lips these days. And, for those who believe luxury shouldn’t come at the expense of our planet, I’m delighted to reveal this latest bathroom trend, where opulence meets environmental mindfulness.

Transforming your bathroom into a sustainable sanctuary needn’t be a chore. Every choice can reflect your commitment to the Earth, from water-saving taps, showers and toilets to reusable materials.

Choose sustainable features for an eco-friendly bathroom in 2024

Looking to add a touch of rustic charm to your space? Reclaimed wood is not only environmentally friendly but also adds a striking visual element to your bathroom. When combined with air-purifying plants (see trend No. 2 above!), you’ll soon be enjoying a highly rejuvenating atmosphere reminiscent of a luxurious spa retreat.

We used the following products:

12. Unique bath surfaces

At one time, the freestanding or roll top bath was seen as an extravagant luxury, out of the reach of the average homeowner. With space-saving designs available at affordable prices, it seems we’re now looking to up our bathtub game with a focus on distinct textures, materials and surfaces.

Unique bath surfaces bathroom trends 2024

The latest bathroom trends shouldn’t leave you feeling blue…unless that’s a colour you love!

To elevate your personal spa, rustic, natural stone offers an organic elegance, while concrete surfaces appeal to those who wish to make the soft industrial style work.

However, if this all sounds a little heavy for your smallest room, why not consider a bespoke painted surface to create long-lasting allure.
