Ever wondered how professional interior designers create beautiful bathrooms from scratch? We caught up with Victoria Plum customer Amber of Carrington Interiors to find out more.
One of the real perks of my job here at Victoria Plum is getting to see all the lovely bathrooms our customers share with us on social media. Recently, one bathroom in particular really stood out for me. And, naturally, I was keen to find out more about it.
The bathroom itself (pictured below) was designed by Amber Carrington, a professional interior designer with over 10 years’ experience and owner of Berkshire-based Carrington Interiors. Amber kindly took some time out of her busy schedule to chat with me about her bathroom design and provide us with some expert tips for your own renovation project.

The project
Ruth Foster (RF): Hi Amber. Thanks for taking the time out to chat with us. First off, what was the scope of this bathroom project?
Amber Carrington (AC): This is the main bathroom in the property I was working on at the time. It was falling apart and needed a new lease of life. The clients I work for are a couple and have a downstairs shower room with a shower and toilet (which is his). The main bathroom is for my female client.
RF: Interesting! We have heard a lot about the benefits of shared bathrooms. And where did you find your inspiration for the main bathroom?
AC: The client provided me with some examples of Louise Dear’s work and said she would love to have something of hers incorporated if possible. I chose a piece and continued with the vibe. I knew I could be bold with colour, as my client isn’t afraid of colour or and her style is eccentric.
RD: And how did the project go?
AC: It went really well. Normally with bathrooms, something comes up, but I think, because we only changed the location for the sink, it all went smoothly.
RD: Were there specific products you wanted? How did the Victoria Plum products fulfil your needs?
AC: Yes! I definitely wanted a pink sink to match the back panel. It was great, and a super easy website to navigate.
We’re not blushing…the light pink countertop basin from the Artist Collection is simply gorgeous
RD: “That’s great to hear! And how long did the whole thing take?”
AC: “To create the design and source the products, it took about 2 to 3 weeks. To carry out the work, it was about 4 weeks.”
RD: “Do you ever have any help with the design? Who fitted the bathroom?”
AC: “The design was completely created by me, Carrington Interiors. I produced the 3D visuals for the project, site surveyed the space and sourced all products. For the installation, my clients hired a tradesperson they had used before.”
Styling tips
RD: “What is your own go-to interior style?”
AC: “That’s a hard one, as I love so many styles. I like using dark colours, but the amount I use completely depends on the space itself. In a bedroom or bathroom, for example, I will happily use dark blues on the walls, but in the living area, I tend to introduce darker shades through cushions, curtains and other accessories.”
RD: “Do you have any top tips for anyone thinking of renovating their bathroom?”
AC: “Don’t ignore your taps! They might be boring, but they are such a key feature. When you’ve spent a lot of money on your bathroom, the last thing you want is a cheap looking tap.”
RD: “Thanks for spending time chatting with us Amber, it’s been really interesting finding out more about this stunning bathroom.”
